The more eagle eyed among you will have noticed that the site has been pretty quiet in recent months but we’re pleased to announce construction work has restarted at Church View. The announcement comes after uncertainty around funding brought work to a halt at the end of last year.
John Giddins, Chair of DCDT said: “We are delighted that work has started again on this iconic site, this latest phase of work shows how optimistic we are about the project. We are still in the process of addressing the issues around one stream of our funding, but feel that we are nearing a solution. We are committed to the vision of transforming Church View from a much loved, but decaying building into a real asset for the town .”
Once complete the new digital hub will create 50,000 sq ft of space encompassing 58 new studios, offices and workspaces for the creative, digital, arts and social enterprise sectors – all set around a landscaped courtyard.
John Giddins, added ‘Its facilities, including the cafe-bar, meeting and event spaces will be widely used by local residents. It will be a place of celebration.’
Obviously we are very pleased that building work has begun again and we’ll be bringing you more updates on the site as a consequence. We’d just like to take a moment to thank you for all of your messages of support, they have been hugely appreciated by the team working to get things back on track. Now that things are back on track with the work we will be bringing you a new site too so watch this space for more updates.
